3D Movies Available for Your Plasma, LED Or LCD TV
3D Movies Available Now For The New 3D Technology
When you get a new 3D system: 3D TV, 3D Blu-ray player, 3D glasses etc. now you want to watch 3D movies. What 3D movies are available right now?
The answer is, not much. But the situation slowly is improving.
Consumers are most interested in great picture quality, and that’s what 3D is about and they will want to know what’s available before they buy a 3D system.
There are three 3D movies available now – Samsung 3D Starter Kit bundle comes with Monsters vs Aliens that is 3D movie, and there are two more 3D movies –Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Sony is giving away two 3D movies ( Chance of Meatballs and …?) with their Sony 3D TV purchase.
These 3D movies are really excellent but now that’s all that there is… all the rest use red/blue glasses (see at the bottom).
What Can I See In 3D On My 3D HDTV? 3D Movies List (last update 1st September 2010)
Looking for 3D blu-ray movies that are current with the new tech? Most movie studios have yet to communicate their release schedules. According to publicly available rumors there are currently several 3D movies being released in 2010 on Blu-ray 3D discs. It’s obvious that animation, followed by action and horror movies, are 3D’s top genre draws.

Other sources like DVDTOWN reports Avatar won’t wow 3D TV owners until November – and then they must buy it with Panasonic 3D Blu-ray equipment. Likewise, the Blu-ray 3D version of Alice in Wonderland is expected to be an exclusive release with Sony 3D hardware this fall.
Blu-ray 3D Vs. 3D
Always look for the Blu-ray 3D logo when buying a movie as this will ensure that your 3D-viewing experience is optimal.
Blu-ray 3D movies are in principle playable in 2D on all Blu-ray players, and in 3D on all 3D HDTVs produced starting in 2010 (but not the DLP-based 3D ready TVs produced in the previous couple of years, unless an adapter is used). You need to use High-Speed (version 1.4) HDMI cables.
Also note that a lot of movies currently on the market are labeled 3D but will not give you the exciting 3D effects you are looking for. Most of these movies have been released over the last few years and use a different technology (anaglyph or polarized)–they usually come bundled with 3D glasses. These movies will play fine on any HDTV and Blu-ray or DVD player; however, the 3D effects will not be as impressive as the ones you would get from a movie on a Blu-ray 3D disc (as per Amazon).
3D Viewing At Home In 2010 – 2011
Expect a number of announcements about 3D this year, but 2011 will be the year when things happen.
Sony, Discovery and IMAX have announced an establishment of a joint venture to develop a dedicated 3D television network, which will deliver high-quality 3D content to the home. The three industry leaders with libraries of 3D contect, technological expertise, and television distribution and operational capabilities will enable audiences to experience high quality 3D viewing at home in 2011 in US.
Sony has promised that in the very near future, people will be able to enjoy a wide range of 3D movie titles in the home on Blu-ray players and through other offerings.
This year’s Major League Baseball All-Star game is also being captured in 3D.
It appears that current HD satellite receivers and cable boxes will be able to deliver 3D HDTV, though they may require a firmware update to do so.
World Cup Soccer in June and X-games in July all broadcast on ESPN 3D. You don’t need to buy anything other than the 3D TV and compatible 3D glasses. 85-100 3D sporting events coming within the year…search ESPN 3D for the complete list. Comcast and DishTV have contracted to become carriers for ESPN3D.
Besides production of new 3D movie, experiment and study of converting old film from 2D to 3D are being conducted. Its creation costs 3-6 Mil Yen and takes 2-3 months to complete because some procedures are still made by hand. Accordingly one movie costs 300-800 Mil Yen.
A large number of 3D movies will apear in the market if its cost can be reduced by further development of converting technology.

DirecTV is the first platform provider to announce the launch of dedicated 3D channels. The satellite TV company said it will provide a software upgrade for millions of current subscribers that will allow them to view 3D.
Panasonic, which plans to target DirecTV’s 18 million subscribers as it markets new 3D TV sets, believes about 10 million DirecTV homes can receive 3D signals.
DirecTVs three 24/7 new channels are:
- a 3D pay-per-view channel focused on movies, documentaries and other programming
- a 3D DirecTV on Demand channel
- a free 3D sampler channel featuring event programming such as sports (including the MLB AII Star game), music and other content
AEF/AEF Digital Media, CBS, Fox Sports/ FSN, Golden Boy Promotions, HDNet, MTV, NBC universal and Turner Broadcating Syste,m Inc. will develop 3D programming that will debut in 2010-2011 on DirecTV’s service.
The other source for 3D content is Blu-ray movies. Unfortunately, the number of 3D Blu-ray movies are very limited now.
How To Play 3D Movie On A Regular Plasma, LED or LCD TV
To play 3D on a regular plasma or LCD TV you’ll need cheap 3D glasses and 3D movie that does not require 3D-capable TV. These DVDs are also cheaper if look at their price. Be sure you read what 3D glasses are required to watch the movie you want, and is it 3D. Usually compatible cheap glasses are included, if not, you can buy them separately for all family members. They cost around $5 and even less than that.
These 3D DVDs below require cheap red-and-blue 3D glasses and will play on non-3D enabled electronics. You wont need a 3D TV or 3D Blu-ray player to view these movies. Great, uh?

Pro-AnaTM – PRO-X Style – Fits over Most Prescription Glasses – red/cyan for 3D Movies, Gaming and TV – for Flat Screens
Top 3D movies for a regular plasma TV:
Watch these 3D movies on a regular 2D plasma. You’ll need red-and-blue 3D glasses and will play on non-3D enabled electronics. You do not need a 3D TV or 3D Blu-ray player to view these DVDs.
The 3D version of Fly Me to the Moon is made in both the 2D and 3D versions, so you can watch it in either. The 3D version is a little off color when using the red and blue 3D glasses, but if you adjust the color on your media player or TV, you can get the proper color proportion for the glasses.
Check out other 3D movies here.
Avatar
Avatar came out on Blu-ray in late April, but in 2D only. Unfortunately Avatar (Blu-ray)film is not in 3D.
Also, it is recommend you update your older Blu-ray players firmware to ensure successful playback of this product in 3D (when it’s available in 3D) and you’ll need also other 3D equipment to be able to watch 3D movie ( I believe this wont be the cheap 3D glasses version!)
As mentioned above you can pre-order Avatar in 3D now and get it as soon as it comes out. Official 3D version of Avatar is said to come out until 2011. Too long to wait…
But you can get ahead of time and convert it from 2D to 3D by themselves using a new technology I am going to share here …
