do you mean standard, non-digital cable, or standard digital? from what you’re saying, it sounds like you are using digital cable, but you don’t have a hi-def cable box. if you don’t, than the back of that box will only have the following video options, 1. coax (will look absolutely horrible on your tv), 2. composite (the yellow cable that you are probably using now), or possibly 3. s-video (small black cable). using coax with a hi def, plasma tv is like serving up dog crap on a silver platter. it’s a waste. the clarity will always suck through that coax. what you need is digital cable with a high def box. then, you will have access to: 1. component video and 2. hdmi. with those, you will be able to get true high def tv. you will notice a dramatic difference as you would be going from the worst to the first.

There is nothing you can do. You see the picture is not very good as 50 inch plasma tvs are meant for HD signal. The television is too big and the standard definition signal was never designed for screens that size. Call your cable company and order HD! You wont regret it. Then the tv will look just like it did in the store.
Basically, you have a good brand tv but you’ll only see good pictures if you get a HD source. Standard Definition cannot ever be as good as it would be on a smaller set. The lines are just spread too far apart.
Get an HD feed! Also get a Bluray player or a Playstation 3 has build in Bluray for bluray movies. You’ll live the picture.
