Is Blu-ray Worth Getting

Blu-ray IS all that! In my wildest expectations I never thought this Sony Blu-ray unit would perform up to its marketing description. You cam enjoy Blu-ray Disc movies in Full HD 1080p, including 3D Blu-ray Discs.

Also, before you’re considering making the leap to Blu-ray you should make sure your TV is Full HD.

I never really though Blu-ray would be all that good, but then I saw one set up on a full HD Plasma TV… I was so much impressed by its amazing picture quality that I got a 50 inch Samsung plasma TV and PlayStation 3 as soon as I could.
The sound is amazing, the sub really kicks out deep bass. It’s truly immersive HD home theater experience, and I’ve been extremely happy since the day i picked it up.

For a home theater in a box and for this price it is hard to beat. The ONLY issue I had was when using a non-Sony flash drive I was unable to access the contents. The particular flash drive I was using was a Cruzer 8GB one. I went out and purchased a Sony 4GB flash drive and it worked perfectly in terms of accessing my videos, photos, music, etc. I later learned that formatting the USB drive to FAT32 makes it usable with the TV.

Avatar — the greatest adventure of all time, it’s gorgeous to look at.  It is an absolutely visually stunning film and it comes across beautifully in this Blu-Ray edition. As to the technical merits of the film … well, I’ve got sense enough to enjoy a movie without picking the thing apart on technical merits. If a better version comes out later, I’ll buy it. Until then .. pass the popcorn.

Some movies stand out much better than others, Hellboy and Die Hard 4 are definately good to see as well.

Happy Feet [Blu-ray]

Any computer animated movie looks fantastic because they are a direct transfer of the digital source. Happy Feet is a great example, because with the majority of color being harsh white and strong blacks, details and edges are well defined, and when other colors are shown they really stand out brilliantly.

It also helps that a lot of effort was put into the transfer, which is why it is quite often used as a demo material on display in stores. Monster House looks brilliant. 300 does look good too on Blu-ray being as it is so stylized, contrasted and artificially grained. Any fan of the look of the film will love seeing it on Blu-ray in all it’s glory.

The Dark Knight is a great movie as it is but the Blu-ray quality really helps take it a step above. 120Hz TV with matching surround sound and the whole experience just blew me away. I liked Batman Begins but this movie really turned me into the fan that I wasn’t before. Even if I didn’t have the surround sound I would have loved the movie, but it does take it to a new level. The quality of the Blu-ray was superb. I’d recommend it to all movie watchers.
