Which would be a better deal? 50 inch Samsung or the Panasonic?

My choice would be the Samsung, due to the model number you provided. It’s the 8 series and the top model of Samsung.
The Panasonic is also a very good tv and has a better service support than Samsung.
The higher price on the Samsung is due to better blacks in color, it is as close the the Pioneer when comes to producing blacks. I have a Panasonic 50″ and a Samsung 58″ plasma and have not one complain on both models. The final judge is yourself, whatever you get you have to live with it. Hope this help and enjoy either one you get.

I own the Samsung PN50A550. I love it. It’s a great TV. But the Panasonics have a little better picture thanks to the deeper blacks, so I’ve heard.
Based on a comparison of the specs for the Samsung 850, 650 and 560 I can’t even tell the difference. I mean, they have the same screen, so you could just get a 650 unless you want the extra little bells and whistles which don’t usually add up to much.
Personally, I’d buy the G10 even if it were the same price as the 850.
