Your best option is do a side by side comparison on the same TV, one with a 720p signal and the other with a 1080p signal. Chances are you won't be able to tell the difference (most people can't, and the people that say they can are most likely lying). The 1080p has been used rather successfully by companies to as a marketing ploy, "more is better" and get more money from your pocket.
Save the money and put it towards a decent AV receiver. You will appreciate the better sound over the "better resolution".

1. It is OK to have 720p. Your eyes <a href="http://www.satellitesoftcom.com/samsung-pn50b450-50-inch-plasma-hdtv-review" rel="nofollow">won't tell the difference </a>actually.
2. 1080p is the future and ultimate solution. It worth paying $600 more.
3. You can wait for the 1080p price dropping. It will be a mainstream spec in the market.
Have the store play the same bluray on both and view from your normal viewing distance and see if it is worth $600.
